Techniques - Make your own clear titles and decorations

You may have noticed that some scrapbook manufactures are producing letters and shapes in some clear material. Some of them are called ghost shapes. There are of course a way to make your own clear titles and decorations. It will not be as thick as the original ones, but it works. :)

Transparencies or overhead plastics are the answer. You may prefer to choose a thicker version, but it works with any overhead plastics. Transparencies from any Scrapbook manufacturer or ordinary office overhead plastics. It's perhaps a question of economical character... and I just want to say that your should remember to have no fear to use ordinary office supplies when you scrap. Just take whatever you have access to.

What can you do then? The possibilities are endless. You can cut out your own letters and shapes with means of a die cutting machine, a scalpell or even a scissor. It is very difficult, if it's even possible, to use most overhead plastics in punches and I do therefore not recommend to try it out. With a die cutting machine, you get the shape automatically. Stamping beforehand makes it possible to cut out a shape. And you can also trace a pattern or even draw it by free hand before cutting it out with a scalpell and/or a scissor.

When you have the letter/s and/or shapes, you may adhere them as they are or choose to decorate them in some way. The possibilities are endless again. You can draw some kind of frame with a permanent pen, you can adhere some other decoration such as rhinestones, you can color in the back of the letter or shape with acrylic color to get a somewhat grunge feeling. You can even warm the plastic so it will become wrinkled and the shape you want it to be. Dr.Nina has made a good tutorial (in Swedish) for making heated plastic flowers and it can be found here. You can also use, for instance, alco inks to change the color of the plastic and perhaps also make some nice pattern. And... Yes, and what more can you do? I'm curious and for the win-win that will increase our scrapping knowledge, please comment to this posting by giving a link to whatever you have created, do create or think about creating from the theme in question.
